We understand your concern and agree that there is a great need in our communities for this program.
It takes a lot of time for a new program to start. The law that created the Paid Leave Oregon was signed into law in August 2019, and the first cases of COVID-19 began in March 2020. There were a lot of reasons that made the delay a necessity, not least of which was the way the pandemic impacted our ability, as an agency, to make the kind of progress we hoped for since many staff were shifted to help with the increasing need for Unemployment Insurance staff.
Until the program comes online, please share these resources with your friends and loved ones. There are programs available to folks right now that can help during this time.
